THIS EVENT IS CANCELED, and will be rescheduled.
-----------
Celebrate Pride month in this hands-on embroidery workshop led by craftivist Shannon Downey aka Badass Cross Stitch. Learn about craftivism history and its part in the LGBTQ rights movement, then try your hand at your own embroidery project.
In the latter half of the presentation, Shannon will be teaching some embroidery basics. We will have supplies for the first 20 participants who register in person on the 4th floor of the library. If our supplies are all taken, you can certainly just watch this part, but if you’d like to stitch along at home, these are the supplies you will need:
an embroidery hoop
a piece of light colored cotton fabric (got a tea towel or old sheets around? Use those)
a sharp sewing needle
scissors
embroidery floss (or string, in whatever colors you like)
a water erasable marking pen, transfer pen, or friction pen (optional)

The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
