Join DPPL librarians Ariana and Kristyn as we sample episodes from the literary-themed NPR featured podcast “The Lit Review” and engage in an invigorating discussion with co-host Page May about why they created the podcast and what it takes to produce it. Each week, co-hosts Page May and Monica Trinidad chat with people they love and respect about relevant books on Black struggle, movement history, gender, cultural organizing, Sci-Fi, political theory, and more. Check out their episodes on Viet Thanh Nguyen's Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Sympathizer with Chicago attorney and community organizer Van Huynh, Colson Whitehead's NY Times Best Selling novel, the Underground Railroad with Chicago writer Eve Ewing, or for Sci-fi geeks, Octavia Butler’s Earthseed series with pleasure activist and Octavia Butler scholar adriennemaree brown.

The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
