Kirigami
Explore and enjoy a unique and creative twist of Japanese craft with Japanese artist Mami Takahashi from the Japanese Culture Center for a special Kirigami workshop!
Kirigami, derived from the Japanese art of origami, adds an extra dimension to traditional paper folding by incorporating intricate cuts, resulting in stunning three-dimensional designs.
During this workshop, students will delve into the world of Kirigami, using simple materials such as colored or patterned papers, scissors, glue, and pencils. Guided by Mami, students will learn how to fold, draw, and cut their way to crafting beautiful pop-up cards and collage works inspired by various plants and flowers.
The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
