For generations of Chicagoans, nothing equaled the glamour of the Edgewater Beach Hotel. Chicago's glorious hotel on the shores of Lake Michigan featured a private beach, outdoor dance floor, fine dining, golf, tennis, lavish floor shows and some of the nation's best big band music. Hollywood celebrities and sports stars stayed there, as did everyday people enjoying special occasions.
Historian Leslie Goddard explores the history of the famous resort on the lake, from its construction in 1916 through its sad demise in 1967.

The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
