Groundbreaking three-community project celebrates our nation's 250th anniversary
Professionals from the Des Plaines History Center, the Mount Prospect Historical Society and the Arlington Heights Historical Museum have been collaborating since March to write the story of the development of the three communities along the train tracks which unite them. The fruits of their research have been assembled into an interesting and informative video program which will debut in each community this November. The video explores how the railroad, and access to it, shaped the development of each of these communities from small farming towns to the bustling suburbs of today.
Railroad Ties is being produced by MPTV, the government access channel for the Village of Mount Prospect. It will be screened at the Des Plaines Public Library on November 12, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. The trio of museum professionals will be giving commentary and answering questions.

The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
