Meeting Room B/CA library is more than just books! Come see our newest additions to the Library of Things aimed to make life easier, one gadget at a time.
These gadgets aim to increase convenience, accessibility, and inclusion by having offerings for users of all abilities. Enjoy these fun and useful items you can check out with your library card and take home. This collection is great for those who need or want to try something without having to buy or store it.
Just a few examples of ways you can use this collection:
Carry more of your grocery bags into the house in one trip.
Borrow our Scanmarker Air that can help with translation and can read text aloud.
Try light therapy to see if it'll lift your mood.
Make labels in large font for easy readability or in braille.
Feeling overstimulated? Check out our noise cancelling headphones or our sound machine.
Try various electronic magnifiers - handheld, hands-free, or one that can connect to a bigger monitor - before deciding whether to purchase one.
Borrow a cane, rollator, or other assistive gadgets to help you when you need extra mobility aids. Or even a foldable stool to take on the go.
Maybe you'd like to help the joints and muscles in your hand with ergonomic tools or a hand massager.

The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
