Des Plaines Public Library

Meeting Room B/C

Most women do not feel comfortable negotiating a salary and benefits for their job. AAUW Work Smart is designed to help participants negotiate for a new job, raise, or promotion. In the workshop attendees will gain confidence in their negotiation style through facilitated discussion and role play.

Why is negotiation so important? AAUW's research on the gender pay gap shows that, one year out of college, women are already paid significantly less than men. Women who work full time take home 80 cents for every dollar a full time male worker is paid.

The workshop is presented by Lisa Cherry and Donna Jean Simon of AAUW.

About

The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
