Event Type: Adult Program - Book Discussion Age Group(s): Adult Date: 11/8/2012 Start Time: 7:30 PM End Time: 8:30 PM Description: Readers Services Assistant Claire Greene will lead a book discussion on Dreaming in Cuban by Cristina García in Meeting Room A on the first floor. Books are available one month prior at the Readers Services Desk on the third floor.
The author will be joining the group via Skype, and Associate Professor of Spanish at Northeastern Illinois Esther Santana will be in attendance as well. Cuban desserts will be served. Set in both Cuba and New York, García's debut novel tells the stories of the lives of three generations of Cuban women. It is a novel full of beautifully evoked images which tells a story of the strength of family and the strong influence of politics and superstition. García capitalizes on the profound internal struggle between where we’ve come from and where we’re going when the traditions of our ancestors come into contrast with the realities of modern life. Location: Meeting Room A Registration Ends: 11/8/2012 at 7:30 PM Contact: Joel Sawyer Contact Number: (847) 376.2811 Status: We're sorry. This event is currently full. | |
